About Karnataka State Aids Prevention Society : 
The state's commitment to tackle HIV and AIDS dates to 1992 when KSAPS was established as a cell in the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services and registered as a society in 1997. It has implemented HIV prevention, care and support programs within the framework of NACP-I, II and III with support from NACO. KSAPS built strong partnerships with the government health infrastructure, NGOs and collaborative projects such as the Indo-Canadian Collaborative HIV/AIDS Project (ICHAP), which operated from 2000-2005. Currently we are in NACP IV from year 2012 to 2017.
The first case of HIV was detected in Karnataka during 1988 (Saudatti, Belgaum) and first AIDS case was also reported during the same year. Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society (KSAPS) was registered as society on 9th December 1997; it is an autonomous institution and a highest policy-making structure regarding HIV/AIDS in Karnataka, headed by Chief Minister. The chairman of Executive Committee is Principal Secretary/Secretary to Government Health & Family Welfare Department. As per NACO, Karnataka is one of the "high prevalent States" in India. The other high prevalent states in India are Andhra Pradesh, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Manipur and Nagaland. KSAPS is implementing National AIDS Control Programme Phase - III. Karnataka have 26 Category A districts and 1 Category C district.
1. To prevent HIV transmission and to control its spread.
2. To reduce morbidity and mortality associated with HIV infection.
3. To reduce the adverse social and economic impact resulting from HIV infection.
4. To co-ordinate and strengthen STD/HIV/AIDS surveillance.
5. To provide technical support in HIV/AIDS prevention and control to Government and Non-Governmental Organizations.
6. To enhance the community awareness, specifically knowledge, attitude and practice of high risk groups.
7. To develop Health Education materials for distribution and adoption by agencies working in AIDS prevention.
8. To channelise and integrate the activities of Non –Governmental Organisations in AIDS prevention and control.
9. To promote safety of Blood and Blood products and encourage Voluntary Blood Donation movement.
10. To provide facilities and to strengthen services relating to Sexually Transmitted Diseases in Government and Private Medical Institutions and Practitioners.
11. To provide Counselling services.
12. To organize social support for management of HIV infected and AIDS patients.
13. To utilize the incomes and funds collected and donations if any received, by the society solely towards the objects of the society.
14. To carry on the activities without the intention of making any profit.
15. To carry out its activities within India for the benefit of the people.
16. The objects of the Society are also to extend the medical facilities to all citizens irrespective of caste, religion, sex etc.
